Balloon Event - November 2011

In November 2011, we were lucky enough to be able to attend a recognsied balloon event, amongst balloon professionals from all over the world.  The event took place in a grand hotel in Oxfordshire.  The whole weekend was taken over by balloonatics from all over the world - building balloon sculptures and competing in balloon competitions.

The whole event was one of the best we have attended to date and we came back with ooodles of creativity.  We rubbed shoulders with some of the best balloon artists from all over the world all sharing our balloon experiences.  We made loads of new friends at this event.

While we were there, we also sat a very important exam called CBA (Certified Balloon Artist) - where we had to take a 4 hour practical exam.  We had already passed the theory examination and in this final part of the test, we had to demonstrate our creativity and also confirm that we understood the balloon design curriculum.  We were amongst 29 other balloon professionals who qualified that weekend and when we had our name read out, there wasn't a dry eye in sight!

We are so proud of our achievement and we worked very hard for it.

The training workshops and training we attended at this event was absolutely mind blowing and an experience that we will never forget.

We also had the priviledge of working with Jo Uddin on her sculpture piece - which came an impressive 3rd place!  We were chuffed to bits!

Large Sculpture Workshop - May 2011

The finished display
In May, we attended a 2 day advanced workshop in Balloon Sculptures with fantastic trainer Luc Betrand. We learnt oodles of tip and techniques to build large sculptures like the one attached.  This sculpture took 2 days with a team of 12 fellow balloonies.  We had a ball!   Below are some photos as we made the individual pieces.

The body - a lot of accurate measuring required!

The hat being weaved with balloons - happy memories of this singing "don't stop the weaving"  (I guess you had to be there to find that funny!)
